Title: “The pillars of the Earth”

Author: Ken Follet

Genre: historical novel

Publisher: William Morrow, New York

Level: Advanced

Brief summary of the plot:  In a time of civil war, famine and religious strife, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against this backdrop, lives entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age.

Personal opinion: “The pillars of the Earth” is such an amazing book. It tells us about a shocking love story in the middle of the building of a cathedral. Some people don’t like it because it is too long but I think that it’s better because if you love the book you don’t want it to end. In addition the plot is about the lifee of two generations and it describes every place, person and situation carefully. I love his descriptions and the way of telling the action because it makes me feel like another character, as if I were in the novel.  Finally I recommend it to everybody who likes real, unpredictable and fascinating novels.
