PAST SIMPLE - REGULAR VERBS

Para formar el pasado simple de los verbos regulares se añade la terminación -ED a la raíz del verbo correspondiente.
walk—- walked        look—–looked               listen—listened          explain——explained
A) Según sea la terminación del verbo, a veces es necesario hacer algunos cambios:

1) Si el verbo termina en -y precedida de una consonante, se cambia la -y por -i y se añade la terminación -ED

hurry—— hurried                    study—–studied               reply—- replied

2) Si el verbo termina en -e, sólo se añade la -D

arrive——arrived                    close—–closed

 3) Algunos de los verbos regulares forman el pasado duplicando la consonante final y añadiendo -ED cuando su última sílaba está formada por una vocal seguida de una consonante y sobre ella recae el énfasis al pronunciarla.

 stop—–stopped                   travel——travelled               unwrap——

My favourite place

Posted by mariaah under 1º ESO
One of my favourite places is the Doñana national park, one of the biggest wetlands in Europe. This picturesque area of land and water, located in Huelva, in the sout-west of Spain, is a perfect refuge for wildlife.
The park is home to many beautiful and exotic species including red deer, boar, wild horses and flamingoes. Doñana is probablye the only home left in the overdeveloped south of Europe for endangered species such as the Iberian lynx and the imprerial eagle. This scenic park also offers an opportunity for visitors to learn about the unspoilt flora of the region and its unique biodiversity.
Visitors are taken in groups, with speciall trained guides, to tour the park and learn about the different animals that live there and their habitats.
Visit Doñana national park, and you’ll be delighted. I’m sure you have never seen such a lovelly place before.

Used to

When I was younger, I used to practise more often.

She used to play tennis  almost every day, but not anymore.

I used to work in a school but not now.    She didn’t use to smoke

Did you use to surf in the web?

Be used to is an expression. It is not a tense.     Be used to something     or       Be used to doing

If I say “I am used to Thailand” it is like saying “I am accustomed to Thailand”

The structure is:  Subject +be+used to+object

I am used to horses

He is used to running

She isn’t used to getting up early

The be used to expression is for talking about something that is familiar to us or easy for us.

For example: British people are used to driving on the left

It means that it is not a problem for them to drive on the left of the road.

I am  used to hard work  ( =estoy acostumbrado al trabajo duro)

I am used to working hard  (= estoy acostumbrado a trabajar duro)

He is not used to New York  (él no esta acostumbrado a Nueva York)   We can use BE USED TO in any tense. We just conjugate the verb BE in the tense that we need.

When we lived in Bangkok, we were used to hot weather

I have been used to snakes for a long time

You will soon be used to living alone

He isn’t used to living in New York (=él no está acostumbrado a vivir en Nueva York)

Are you used to fast food?  (=estás acostumbrado a la comida rápida?)

Are you used to eating quickly? (=estás acostumbrado a comer rápido?)
