Never-ending Story

Fecha Tuesday, 26 January 2010

Have you ever been in Fantasy? Have you ever seen a Stone-eater, a southern Pixie or a race snale? What would hppen to Fantasy if we didn’t believe in it anymore? What would you do if you were the only one who could save it from The Nothing? Are you ready to believe in it?Bastian’s life changed quickly when he stole that mystery book with that strange symbol on the cover. He couldn’t give it up and he felt as he was taking part in the story: The Nothing is destroying everyplace of the Fantasy Kingdom and Atreyu has to find a real boy who could save Fantasy from disappearing. Perhaps Bastian could be this boy…The Never-ending Story was shot in 1984 and it is based on Michael Ende’s novel. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen, it is a “U” film, a tale for children and adults. It takes you to an unreal world where dragons can fly and all kind of creatures live together, and makes you develop your imagination, to realize that you still believe in fantasy and that tales usually become real.A superb soundtrack makes the film even more moving than it is and you will enjoy it very much.I can thoroughly recommend it because it is and it will be my favourite film ever and I never feel tired to watch it.You won’t regret to enjoy the Never-ending Story with your family and they won’t feel disappointed. Enjoy it! And believe!LUCÍA ÁLVAREZ FERNÁNDEZ

Family and Xmas

Fecha Monday, 25 January 2010

Is Christmas a bitter-sweet period of time, a time of joyful celebration or a complete nightmare?

Many people think that spending Christmas with their families is the best option, but some others believe that it is better travelling as far as they can from their relatives.

There is a quotation by Robert Lynd that says “There are some people who want to throw their arms round you just bacause it is Christmas, there are other people who want to strangle you because it is Christmas”. And we wonder ourselves who is right? Arguments on both sides provide reasons in favour, it is depending on how they perceive it.

For example, it is clear that for Christian people that these days have a special and emotional meaning. For them Christmas is the annual holiday which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, a period of time to share love and peace with your family and everyone in the world.

However, in the early eighteenth century scholars and scientists such as Isaac Newton began proposing alternative explanations, like the one that said that the date of Christmas was selected to correspond with the winter solstice in the northern hemisfere, a period of time to have fun and forgetting your problems with friends.

Another reason to celebrate these festivities with the family is because you could eat the unforgettable tasty family meals and drinking the special eggnog made by your aunt, that are only available on thse days. But the disadvantage to that is that you put on weight as if you where living with your parents again.

Another advantage to be with relatives is that you could exchange new achivements with the most demanding members of your family in order to be proud of you. Nevertheless, if you haven’t got anything to be proud of they probably make you feel guilty and ashamed of it.

On balance, it would seem that spending Christmas with your family offers benefits because it is good to share food and experiences with them. But also there are drawbacks like hearing the best advice from your relatives.

In conclusion, We need Christmas family holidays, although in dose of year in year.
