Título: Curse this House
Autor: Barbara Wood
Obra adaptada: No
Nivel: avanzado
Review: When her mother died, Leyla returns to her home in Pemberton. She left home when she was five years old, after her father and her mother died and has no memory of the incident. She remembers little things of the time she spent in the house and she wants to discover the mystery of her family and the house, the mansion of Pemberton Hurst.
In my opinion the book is interesting and it is not the typical romantic novel, but it is difficult to understand. The author has a roundabout way of telling things, but little by little it is possible to understand it. You can find a romantic novel with a little bit of mystery.

Título: die Geschichte von Herrn Sommer
Autor: Patrick Süskind
Editorial: diogenes verlag
Obra adaptada: NO

Título: Kleiner Mann, was nun?
Autor: Hans Fallada
Editorial: Aufbau Taschenbuch
Obra adaptada: No

Título: The Diary of a Young Girl
Autor: Anne Frank
Editorial: Penguin
Obra adaptada: Sí
Nivel: Intermediate
Review: The story takes place in Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944. The book tells the story of Anne Frank and her family. It is the time of the Second Wold War and the Germans have invaded the country. All the Jews fear for their lives. The Frank family decide to hide in a secret flat. Their younger daughter, Anne, begins to write a diary of their lives in hiding.
From my point of view the book is absorbing, I couldn´t put it down. I think that it is worth-reading because it tells us about the awful suffering of the Jews and their hopes during the Second Wold War. It was quite easy to understand and the language was not too difficult.
It is highly recommendable for people who like non-fiction and adventure stories.

Título: Kennedy´s Brain
Autor: Henning Mankell
Obra adaptada: NO
From internationally bestselling author Henning Mankell comes a gripping mystery and a depiction of every parent’s worst nightmare.
When Louise Cantor finds her twenty-eight year old son dead in his apartment, everything indicates it was a suicide. Louise, however, refuses to accept this, and with nothing more than few suspicions and a mother’s intuition, she and her ex-husband set out to find what happened. What they discover is a dark underworld of people exploiting the victims of the AIDS epidemic: corrupt businessmen dealing infected blood, suspicious researchers carrying out dangerous tests, and lecherous drug dealers peddling black market medicine. Their investigation takes them across three continents, and leads them into some mighty financial institutions and highest corridors of power, where suddenly their own lives are at stake.

Título: Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises
Autor: Ernest Hemingway
Obra adaptada: NO
Paris in the twenties: Pernod, parties and expatriate Americans, loose-living on money from home. Jake is wildly in love with Brett Ashley, aristocratic and irresistibly beautiful, but with an abandoned, sensuous nature that she cannot change. When the couple drifts to Spain to the dazzle of the fiesta and the heady atmosphere of the bullfight, their affair is strained by new passions, new jealousies, and Jake must finally learn that he will never possess the woman he loves.
Powerful, intense, visually magnificent, Fiesta is the novel which established Ernest Hemingway as a writer of genius.

Título: Stories of Courage
Autor: Clare Gray
Editorial: Penguin
Obra adaptada: Sí
Nivel: Intermediate
Review: Today’s book is “Stories of Courage” by Clare Gray, first published back in 2004. It is a recollection of short stories with bravery, determination and fearlessness in facing harsh circumstances as the driving topic.
One of the stories is about Erin Brockovich, an American legal clerk and environmental activist who, despite the lack of a formal law school education, was instrumental in constructing a case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company of California in 1993.
Although the book is supposed to be touching, I did not find it very interesting and maybe a bit boring too.

Título: Atonement
Autor: Ian McEwan
Obra adaptada: NO
“Atonement” is a 2001 novel by British author Ian McEwan about a woman’s effort to atone. The story is told of her life changing mistake as a young girl who dreams of being a writer in upper-middle-class interwar England, the effects on herself, family and friends, and her own effort to achieve atonement over the coming century, which leads to an exploration on the nature of writing itself.
It is widely regarded as one of McEwan’s best works and is one of the most celebrated and honoured books of recent years. It was shortlisted for the 2001 Booker Prize for fiction, an award he had already won for his previous novel, Amsterdam. McEwan utilises several stylistic techniques in the novel, including metafiction and psychological realism. The book was later adapted into a BAFTA and Academy-Award nominated film of the same name, starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley, and directed by Joe Wright in 2007.
