Review: This book tells the story of James Ryan, a veteran soldier who is visiting Normandy with his family, a place where he was fighting when he was a soldier 54 years before.

When D-Day finished on June 6, all of his brothers who were also  in the army, had fallen in the battle. Then the army chief of staff, General Marshall, ordered to find the fourth brother and get him out of France and send him home. This part of the story tells us the hard work of a small unit of the army whose mission is to find private Ryan. Finally, after having lost two comrades in the fight they find him, but he refuses to abandon his duty and then they all decide to fight together.

This book was easy to understand and entertaining if you like historical events. If you are a fan or enthusiastic about military history,  you will find a very good story in this book.

The Talented Mr Ripley

Título: The Talented Mr Ripley

Autor: Patricia Highsmith

Editorial: Penguin

Obra adaptada: SI

Nivel: Intermedio

Review: “The Talented Mr Ripley” was written by Patricia Highsmith, author of other famous books as  “Strangers on a Train”. This story has been made into a successful and popular film starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law.

The book tells the story of Tom Ripley, an American young man, who starts a new life when  Mr Greenleaf, Dickie’s father, asks him to persuade his son to return to the U.S. In return, he would pay all his expenses. Dickie and Tom had met a few years ago but they had never been friends. Tom goes to Italy, where Dickie lives, and they start a friendship. However, Tom  had always wanted to become  a successful person as Dickie is, with enough money to live without any worries. He thinks it is the right time to get it, and  the best way is to kill and impersonate Dickie. Tom looks enough like Dickie so it isn’t difficult to use Dickie’s passport. He is a very clever person and finally he manages to deceive everybody, even the police who conclude that Dickie killed himself.

From my point of view, the book is quite entertaining. Actually, I couldn’t put it down until the end. On balance, I ‘d recommend it as a good book for those who enjoy modern fiction stories.

Review: The story takes place during a holiday in Istanbul. The book is about a man who visits his fiancée in Istanbul where she is working. In the beginning everything happens as normal, but when he arrives there, he finds out that she is dead. He cannot believe it and with the help of a friend, he starts to investigate. The main character is a good man in love who only wants to visit his fiancée, a successful and hardworking woman; but she finds out something strange in her job and then the problems start.

I really liked this book because I could not put it down from the beginning. It was easy to read because the language is not difficult and it was quite enjoyable and absorbing.  The book is highly recommendable because it is really entertaining. I am sure everybody will find it interesting.

The Prisioner of Zenda

Título: The Prisioner of Zenda

Autor: Anthony Hope

Editorial: Pearson

Obra adaptada: SI

Nivel: Intermedio

Review:  ”The Prisioner of Zenda” contains all the features of a good adventure book: chance, surprise, danger, skill and love.

The book opens with adventure-loving young Rudolf Rassendyll at home in England, looking for excitement. One day he reads in the newspaper that a new King, Rudolf the Fifth, is going to be crowned in Ruritania and he decides to go there. When he arrives, he stays in the town of Zenda where he meets the new King and discovers that he looks just like him. The King finds this similarity really amusing at first, but then it becomes really important.

From my point of view the story is quite moving and well-written. There is a lot of new vocabulary and some adjectives are a bit difficult to understand, but that doesn´t affect the reading.

If you like adventure books, you shouldn´t miss this one!

Review

The book that I read is “The Prisioner of Zenda” by Anthony Hope. It´s an adventure book and the story is told by the main character.

This novel is about the adventures of a young English gentleman, Rudolf Rassendyll, in the fictional European kingdom of Ruritania where he lives the adventure of his life: he has to impersonate the King of the country who was drugged by his evil brother, Duke Michael.

I think the book is quite absorbing. The most interesting part is when Rassendyll and his friend carry out their plan to save the King. I would recommend it as an entertaining book for those who enjoy adventures and romance.

Review: The book I read is called “A Matter of Chance” by David A. Hill. It is a thriller and Paul Morris, the main character, tells the story.

The story takes place in Italy, where Paul and his wife Jacky live happily in love, but Paul’s happy life changes when Jacky dies in an unlucky accident. After that, Paul does not want to come back to England where his family lives. He wants to live by himself in Italy. Few months later, Paul and his workmate Sandra, fall in love and start a beautiful relationship, but not everything is perfect…

From my point of view, this book is worth-reading and absorbing. I like this kind of stories because you do not know what will happen in the end, it is not boring at all!
