Advantages and disadvantages of having friends on social media

Currently, many people rely heavily on technological breakthroughs to make friends due to their hectic lifestyles. Moreover, young people have understood these new forms of socialising online very fast.

On the one hand, the Internet has come up like an easy way to keep in touch with friends, family and also allows you to meet new people, even if you have never seen them in person. Therefore, we have got used to typing on our phones being always in touch with our classmates, intimate friends or conquests. Another advantage is that having hundreds of friends or acquaintances online increases confidence in oneself.

On the other hand, it could be argued that online friendships are more superficial than real ones: it is not feasible to maintain meaningful relationships with a lot of people. Additionally, we sometimes are not trained to manage social media sites and we should follow safety tips for internet usage. To sum up, in my view, online socialising is a bit dangerous. Notwithstanding, the problem will be solved if our society gives priority to real communication. Teenagers and adults should also be taught how to use the Internet properly.

Advantages and disadvantages of modern forms of communication

Computers, mobile telephones and tablets have changed our ways of communicating. There are situations where online communication is unavoidable but, is it the most appropriate?

The main advantage is that the Internet opens up the possibility of communicating with people who live in different places in the world. This is important in our life, for example at work. Nowadays, meetings can take place via videoconferencing between different cities without the need to make long trips for meetings that last few hours. Furthermore, it provides the opportunity to keep in touch with your family and your friends.

On the other hand, there are also some important disadvantages. Some people think that this type of communication leads to the loss of certain social skills. Also, the conversation in real life is very different to that in virtual life. For instance, in virtual conversation emoticons are used to replace phrases or feelings, which can make the message unclear or lead to confusion.

To sum up, I believe that online communication gives us very useful tools in this society where everything has to be fast and immediate. However, we should take care.

An essay: cycling around cities

Publicado por ANA MARIA ARRONDO ESTEBAN el 14 Noviembre 2019

Some people believe that cycling is the best way to travel around cities. Do you agree?

In my opinion, cycling around cities could certainly be an easy mode of transport which has a lot of benefits for your health. However, there are also some disadvantages and risks that we must know about this option of transportation.

On the one hand, cycling helps us to keep fit as well as toning up our muscles. Additionally, It improves our lung capacity and, consequently, we breathe better.

On the other hand, it could prove dangerous because of the cars and buses when the city does not have enough cycle lanes and they share the road with us, so, in this case, walking could be safer.  Moreover, cycling around big cities could make us breathe harmful gases.

Finally, cycling has environmental benefits. For example, when you use your bike rather than your car, you do not use petrol, and, as a result, you do not pollute.

In conclusion, cycling could be a healthy and sustainable mode of transport, but, in contrast, it could be dangerous if the pollution is too high or if the city is not properly conditioned.
