What else can you do?

This is just a short video for you to practise talking about your skills, the things you can do. Watch the video and write down the things they all do.

Elvis Presley

Where were you on 16th August 1977? Had you been born yet? I was 11 back then and I remember Elvis’ passing was all over the news, though it doesn’t mean a big deal if I say his death was covered by all the TV channels, because there were only two at the time… My teenage students must find this extremely hard to believe. Anyway, back to Elvis. I was only 11 when the ‘King of Rock’n'Roll died and I didn’t know very much about him then, but just a couple of years later a double LP album with his greatest hits fell into my hands thanks to my brother-in-law (yep, I’ve mentioned him before, I’ve so many things to thank him for). I loved all his songs, from his first rockabilly sound to his beautiful ballads.

The Cranberries

The Cranberries 

I must admit the 90s were not particularly special for me music wise. The reasons are simple; I’d finished college and I’d started to work and to create my own family, so music was no longer a crucial feature in my everyday existence. Perhaps it was only that I was no longer a teenager and I preferred to stick to the bands and singers I already knew and loved.

Having said that, there were certain groups that caught my attention and whose songs I enjoyed. One of those bands were The Cranberries, whose frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan, had a beautiful and original voice. They were from Ireland, which made them even more dear to me, since the emerald isle was the place where I learned to speak English for real, and where I made wonderful friends.
