Up to now, I have not mentioned National Geographic Magazine as an interesting and useful resource for all of you advanced students out there. Its on-line version offers a plethora (I couldn’t resist the temptation of using this trendy word) of features which can help you improve your listening comprehension skills and also your vocabulary.

One of my favourite sections is simply called multimedia, in which you will find absolutely stunning slideshows along with an audio explanation or presentation about a given topic. In the one I have chosen for you today, titled That Thing Called Love , National Geographic photographer Jodi Cobb talks about how she scoured the globe to document how people define love and how it fits into their lives.

If you feel like doing some extra work, watch the slideshow by clicking on this link and answer the following questions:
- What was her “impossible task”?
- What are the three segments of love?
- According to Jodi, what is one of the main things men like about women in Cancun?
- What is the connection between romantic passion and amphetamines?
- What do they say in India?
- Why do some Taiwanese men go to China?
- What do “lolitas” do in Japan?
- What was Jodi very much interested in doing?
