Thanks to our friends from Freshtopia we are discovering a wide range of vlogs which deal with a great variety of topics and which can help us practise and improve our listening comprehension skills. Besides, we can learn lots of interesting things about healthy food and sustainability.

One of those vlogs is called Cooking up a Story. For this post today, I have chosen Monastery Mustard, a video on a very interesting business initiative carried out by a Benedictine religious order. You can watch the video below or if you would rather do an exercise while you watch it, click here.

Presentation on New York

Yesterday I gave a presentation on New York to my students. I’ve been doing this ever since I got back from my two-year stay in Philadelphia, which is only a two-hour drive from The Big Apple. I fell in love with New York the very first moment I stepped on that impressive city on my way to the Spanish consulate to do some paperwork, mainly because it is a place that never disappoints you. Everything looks familiar, as most of its landmarks have been shown on TV and movies thousands of times, but for some reason it still feels sort of magical to walk along the streets of Manhattan.

I had a great time yesterday and besides my 5th course students, I had the special company of our very own conversation teaching assistant Alison Brick from Syracuse, NY, and Ana from our local teacher center. Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm and kind words.

If you would like to see a selection of photos I showed yesterday, click on the picture below.

Quoting from Rampart Street Music website, Sjuwana Byers hails from one of the south’s regional hotbeds for gospel music, The Great State of Alabama. Alabama is home to hundreds if not thousands of regional gospel artists that go from community to community spreading good southern gospel.
