Singin’ In The Rain

Posted by fcojavim under Advanced students, Songs

We have forgotten about our rain-related-song challenge in the last few days, but here we go again with an absolute all-time classic some of you have mentioned. I’m talking about Singin’ In The Rain, a wonderful song performed by Gene Kelly in the film with the same title which offers a comic depiction of Hollywood’s transition from silent films to “talkies”. In the unforgettable scene you can see below, according to Wikipedia sources, Gene Kelly was actually dancing in water with a little bit of milk added, so that the water puddles and raindrops would show up in the filming. Kelly was sick with a 103 degree fever at the time. We’re talking Fahrenheit here, which would be 39.4 Celsius. That is what I call a true professional. Ok, watch and enjoy!

Quiz Famous and Titanic

Posted by fcojavim under Advanced students

Last Thursday we all had a whale of a time in the company of Andrew Marshall, a top-notch actor and storyteller. He performed two shows, Quiz Famous and Titanic, The Stage Play. You can enjoy a summary of both of them on the following videos.

I do realise some of you might be getting a little fed up with our American elections’ series, but I believe the last speeches given by both Obama and McCain were fine examples of political rhetoric. That is why I’m posting Barack Obama’s full speech from Election Night in Grant Park, re-edited with multiple camera angles and shots of the incredible crowd of over 200,000 supporters, as it is currently shown on his official website.
