Writing assignment

Posted by fcojavim under Advanced students

writing.jpgFor those of you who didn’t show up for class yesterday (26/01/09), we have a writing assignment to be handed in by Monday, February 2nd. It is exercise 9 on page 113 of our textbook.

You can practise the vocabulary in Unit 10 on the materials section, under “computers and loan words”.

Last Sunday, 18 January, the online edition of the British Newspaper The Independent featured a most laudatory article about Western Asturias. Its author, Bill Tuckey, puts it this way: ‘it’s about as good a family seaside spot as one could dream of, and one of many equally dramatic, empty beaches on this stretch of coast, just an overnight ferry ride and a three-hour drive from Britain. This is western Asturias: a mountainous region on Spain’s northern, Atlantic coast which, thanks to its reputation for poor transport links and terrible weather, retains a sense of isolation.’

It is a very interesting article, which we will be using for our class next week. You can read it here.

Our classmate and friend Aurelio has emailed us from Ireland, where he’ll be staying until next Friday. This is his message:

Hi Javier!! …and yes finally I’m in Ireland., after 2 days it’s still dificult to speak English!! and sometimes it’s dificult to understand their English, but I’m ok.Yesterday it was raining the whole day,and it’s colder than Luarca, but I could visit the west part of Donegal Co. Today I visited the Giant’s Causeway, and it’s wonderful. I send you some photos. Now I stay in Letterkenny in Donegal Co. (yesterday I stayed here too) and tomorrow I hope to arrive to Westport, near to Connemara.Well Javier, here you are the photos!!!! We see you next Thursday!! Bye!!! Aurelio

He has sent beautiful pictures from The Giants’ Causeway, a magnificent place located on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. Enjoy the pics!
