Javier’s English Corner

Blog for advanced English students at EOI Luarca

Yes, that is the English translation for the famous sentence Julius Caesar is reported to have said on January 10, 49 BC as he led his army across the River Rubicon in northern Italy. Ok, OK, it may sound too grandiose just before your final tests you will be taking very soon, but I felt like writing that, what can I say.

clase_small.JPGLet me tell you it has been my pleasure and privilege to be your teacher this year. I had already had most of you in my class for two years and this adventure of sharing our passion for the English language together has been most exciting, or at least it’s been so for me. As you already know, I’ll be leaving Luarca’s school for a while to sail to rather distant seas. I’ve always been a somewhat wild spirit and it’s time to experience some new adventures, in the Philippines no less. Wish me luck in my new endeavours; I’ll always carry a bit of you all in my heart. OK, I may be getting a trifle sentimental, but that’s me.

By the way, if you fancy a full size version of our picture together, just write to my usual email address. As for this blog, I hope it stays here as a reminder of the things we learnt together. You can always browse our archive to remember all the things we shared.

Bon voyage…

  1. Olaya Said,

Unfortunately, I´ve only had the opportunity of being with you for a few months, but it was really a pleasure attending to your lessons and learning such many and interesting things from you. I wish you the best in your adventures around the world.
By the way, I saw Casablanca last Sunday and, finally, I enjoyed it!!!!
    Cheers,
    Olaya.

  2. Javier Said,

    Hi Olaya,

You are too kind. I was delighted to have you in my class. I’m really happy about your finally appreciating a classic like “Casablanca”, ha ha. I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship between you and movie oldies.

I wish you all the best in your promising career as a teacher.

    Take care,
    Javier.

  3. Oscar Said,

    Hi classmates and Javier;

It´s true, everything comes to an end. We are finishing this English adventure.
Many thanks Javier, your effort has been amazing and incredible. You have taken care of us for all these years (At the moment I´m remembering I came across you in 2004) and I need to say that you have made me feel comfortable and interested in English learning. It´s great when students meet a teacher who enjoys his job and that´s something that most people can feel in your classes.
I hope you find what you are seeking, good luck for you and your lovely family.
    See you soon Javier.
    BYE BYE.

  4. TOÑA Said,

    Hi Javier,
It has been a pleasure to be in your class. Unfortunately I arrived a bit late, it was just one year, but full of new experiences. You made me feel very comfortable with you and my class mates. I hope you keep being so open minded and your new challenge goes more than well.
    See you soon,
    xxx TOÑA

    Take care,
    Javier.

  9. Javier Said,

    Hi Paz,

Please don’t say good-bye, as I do hope we can still keep in touch every now and then. I will be delighted to know how you are keeping up with your English learning and I promise I will always reply to your emails.

I have been so lucky to be your teacher for three years, so you don’t have to thank me for anything. Working in Luarca with students like you guys has always been a real pleasure.

    Best wishes,
    Javier.

  10. momo Said,

Wish you the best of the world ,
    Un beso enorme.
