Despedida del curso

23 06 2014

Stand up!

12 03 2014

Hello boys and girls! This week I am going to show you this video about women’s rights. I want you to think about this important moral issue because women’s rights are violated all over the world and we must care about it.

Being a woman is still dangerous because women don’t have the same opportunities as men, the same access to money, the same access to education / information, and the same rights related to their sexuality (they can be raped, get pregnant, suffer from sexual harassment, have to raise their children alone, etc.). This world has to change a lot if we want women to feel safe and equal.

Here you are an optional activity to increase your final mark:

a) Comment the information that the video tells us.

b) Do you know any real case in which a woman has suffered because of the violation of her rights? Tell us and say your opinion.

That’s all for now. Remember that you have to finish your assignments about women’s rights. See you in class.

Deadline: March 23.  9 p.m.

Ethical theories

28 01 2014

Hello guys! This term we are studying ethical theories. This is the most difficult unit this year, but I think that you will deal with it. On Thursday we are going to learn a bit more about “Virtue Ethics“. This theory was thought for the first time by Aristotle, the Greek philosopher (5th century BC). Let’s do some activities in order to learn more about it:

1. Work in pairs. Read the following website and answer the questions in your notebook.

a) What was the name of the school where Aristotle studied philosophy?

b)  Aristotle was the tutor of a prince. Who was that person?

c) For Aristotle, it’s not the same to be a good man than to be… what? Try to explain his point of view using your own words.

2. Work in pairs. Look at the following website and search for the definition of “virtue”. Copy it in your notebook.

3. Work in pairs. Look at the following website and do the activity about virtues.

4. Work in pairs. Choose one of the virtues from the previous activity and look for a quote about it. Copy the quote in your notebook and say yor opinion. (Remember to write the name of the person who said the quote).

5. Work in pairs. Look at this website and do the review activity. Enjoy!

6. (Optional). Send a comment to this article answering these questions: What have you learnt with these activities? Do you like them? Why? Make a suggestion in order to create more activities.

You did it really well. You are really good at Ethics.

Best asignments (2010-2014)

Ethical thoughts

In January 16th, this blog is going to be seven years old. In order to commemorate this happy moment, I’m going to show you the best assignments made by my bilingual students in the last four academic years.

Some of them are books written by hand and others are posters. They made them in groups to pass my subjects, which were Citizenship and Ethics. I will always remember the nerves of the first classes. Now that I know how to teach better my philosophical units, I’m trying to improve the classes with new ideas.

Thank’s to all my students for having made these beautiful assignments. You are great!! I hope to see you again.

El efecto perverso

6 11 2013

—————————————————————————————-

ACTIVITY:

a) Visit the following website and read about women during the holocaust: http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/es/article.php?ModuleId=10005176

b) Choose one women and tell me her story: http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/es/gallery.php?ModuleId=10005176&MediaType=OI

c) What were the “freezing experiments”? Write 5 lines about them.

d) Give your opinion about the violence suffered by women. Was it moral or immoral? Why?

That’s all for now. See you in class.

 Deadline: November 17.  9 p.m.

La mano que mece la cuna

13 10 2013

Se llama “La mano que mece la cuna” (The hand that rocks the cradle).

THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADDLE (1992)

You can do a special activity writing a comment on the blog. First of all you have to write a synopsis of the film. Afterwards you have to answer the following questions:

a) How can Claire prove that Peyton is a murderer?

b) What would you do if you were Claire?

c) If you were a judge what sentence would you give to Peyton?

I know that you are going to do the activity very well. Come on!

Deadline: October 27.  9 p.m.
