I hope you don’t mind if I dedicate this post to a very young friend hoping it brings good memories to him. But… the present is not for free: can you think of another song whose title includes the word money? Send a comment with a link to the video, I’m sure you will find it on youtube. I invite all my readers to do the same, let’s see how many titles we can get.

I often wonder what has become of my students. In most cases I never know whether they have finished their studies at this school or whether they have managed to make their dreams come true. On other occasions we keep in touch and, sooner or later, they tell me they are doing something that makes them happy. There are others who I will never forget because they were in my classes when they were very young, and, as such, naughty and mischievous but good people, loyal I would say; these never keep in touch because all they want to do is get rid of you the sooner the better. Funny enough, the students in this last group are the ones you will never forget and sometimes, just by chance, you get to know what has become of them. Then you realise that they have succedeed in life (the same as the good, sweet students who never misbehave) and this is what has happened to one of my ‘lively, naughty (but loyal)’ students who, at that time, did some mischievous things we will never forget. Now, some five or six years later this is what has become of my pupil: a student at university and a member of the Morrigans, a band with a bright future.
They are right here, in your town, if you don’t know what I am talking about watch this video.

Is it money that makes the world go round? … or is it love?
If I ask you about songs whose title has got the word love in it, how many can you name? However, if we change the word in the title and instead of love we try with money in the title, how many will we get?
Of course the obvious answer is money, money money by Liza Minelli (read the lyrics here) but there are many others, I have chosen this one (click HERE and do the exercise).
It was only two days ago that I saw The bodyguard on television again. I know it’s a typical American film, the plot is as silly as it could be but I like the characters, especially HIM, you know what I mean. I’m also very fond of Whitney, not as an actress but as a singer. It’s a pity that she has ended up where she is now.
Anyway, now that St Valentine’s Day is round the corner I want to give you the opportunity to listen to my favourite love song and remind you that you use WILL+INFINITIVE to make promises.
Click on the picture and do the exercise, listen carefully and send a comment explaining why it is a sad song.
I must admit that I’m an ignorant as far as music is concerned. When one of my students told me that her favourite singer was Mark Fly I had no idea what she was talking about. I rushed home, turned on my computer and … nothing worth mentioning appeared on the screen. Luckily the misunderstanding was solved and this is what I got for you.
Thank you for telling me about McFly, Jacquie, I don’t know what your favourite song is so you have no choice but listen to mine.
The Beatles were a pop and rock band from Liverpool formed in 1960. The band consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are recognised for leading the mid-1960s musical British Invasion into the United States.
The Beatles are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music, selling over one billion records internationally.
Obladi Oblada was released on The White Album. It is a Paul McCartney composition. It was written as a show of respect to the emerging reggae movement, possibly related to the growing Jamaican population in Britain.
This song was part of the list of songs considered inappropriate by Clear Channel following the September 11, 2001 attacks, presumably because of ‘the life goes on’ part.

A little bit of karaoke. If you’re unable to sing it as quickly as she does, remember the rules about rhythm and pronunciation: not all the words are pronounced with the same stress.
I used to love her was written by Bobby Womack and was originally recorded by an American Rhythm and Blues band called the Valentinos. The British rock band, The Rolling Stones recorded the song as It’s all over now in 1964, and it was their first number one hit. Bobby Womack hated the Stones’ version, but when he got his first royalty cheque he tried to get them to record more of his songs! This was the first song that Bruce Springsteen learned to play on the guitar.
