A sad song by James Blunt

by Lucía López

I’ve watched the video and I liked it. For me it’s impossible to choose only one sad song. There are many old and legendary songs that are fantastic and really sad or happy. For this reason, I’ve been thinking about current songs. After further consideration, I’ve been chosen “GOODBYE MY LOVER” by James Blunt as the sad song. Maybe it isn’t the saddest song I’ve ever listened to,but it makes me feel down and melancholic. What I like most about it is the minor chords on the piano. As for the lyrics, it’s about a love which has ended. The 2 lovers have broken off their relationship, but he is still in love with her. He explained this in a romantic way and he also admits that she has been the one for him.

A happy song from Grease soundtrack: We go together

On the other hand, I´ve chosen “WE GO TOGETHER” as the happy song. It´s one of the songs from the film Grease. The reason why I´ve chosen it (apart from the rhythm) is because I performed it at school. We prepared a funny choreography and fancy dresses too. We really enjoyed the performance.

I chose Angie for two reasons: this is one of the most important songs of the Rolling Stones with “Satisfaction” and “Paint it black”, for example. I’ve heard it many times in the radio and in the TV since I was thirteen years old and so is a well-known song for me. The second reason is that, although The Rolling Stones are not known for their ballads, this song was a hit in 1973 and is still in the mind of generations of fans of “Their Satanic majesties” who are not really as satanic as people think, as you can see in the video.

It was more difficult to choose a happy song because there are many songs that can make you feel better or happier due to its fast rhythm or they simply told you that you must forget your problems. There are millions songs like this, for example “Garden of Eden” performed by Guns & Roses or “Sitting in the dock of the bay” by Otis Redding. However, there are only a few songs that really make you laugh so I finally decided that a funny video clip would be the best choice. In fact, this video has a curious story. It was performed by Village People, who likes dressing up in their performances as you know, and was shot with the help of the United States Navy which used the song in promotional advertising until people protested arguing that using taxpayer money for a music video of a controversial group was not ethical.
