life-of-david-gale.jpgThe life of David Gale is a 2003 film directed by Alan Parker, and it stars  Kevin Spacey, Kate Winslet and Laura Linney, their performances are very  convincing ,and the story is told in a gripping way, that makes you keep watching until the end..

The plot is about capital punishment, and it is clear that  the director  is against these sentences and he shows it. David Gale (Kevin Spacey) is a good father and popular philosophy  professor, and an activist advocate against capital punishment, a man who has always lived following his principles, but suddenly everything turns against him and he ends being sentenced to death for the rape and murder of  his  activist colleague ( Laura Linney) of the organisation “deathwatch”.  Review by Germán Alonso

high-fidelity.jpg First, I must say I bought and read the book on a trip to London just before last Christmas. I loved it. I really like music, I consider it one of the most important parts of my life, and a book like this one, with a protagonist, Rob, who also loves music and is also feeling insecure in his life, was a really great reading.I had seen the film years ago. John Cusack plays the starring role, and you can also see Jack Black playing the histrionic worker in Rob’s record shop. Their performances are quite good (at least I think so), and even Bruce Springsteen performed a brief and small cameo in the film (this is obviously a great asset for a huge Springsteen fan like me).

In the film, Springsteen’s weight on the plot is somewhat bigger and more important then in the book. That’s the first difference I remember.

Film Review: The Count of Montecristo

”The count of Montecristo” is an adventure film by Kevin Reynolds, shot on location in the USA in 2002 although all the action takes place in France, 19th century. Based on the novel by the well-known writer Alejandro Dumas, this film is a good choice if you are looking for gripping adventures.

The plot is very simple, and there is a rich cast of characters. The main character, Edmond Dantés (James Caviezel) is a poor sailor engaged to Mercedes (Dagmara Dominczyk). Unfortunately, his best friend, Fernando Mondego (Guy Pierce), also loves Mercedes, that’s why he betrays Edmond in order to send him to prison. Dantés is in prison 13 years in the “If castle” until he is able to escape with the help of Faria (Richard Harris). After having escaped he finds the Montecristo’s treasure and he comes back to France being “the count of Montecristo” in order to punish all the people who sent him to an unfair time to prison. Eventually, his thirst for vengeance is calmed (he succeeds in ruining the lives of all his enemies) and he is able to live all the years lost in the “If castle”.
