The debate for this motion is closed now.

Here are the conclusions according to Paola Sancho García, a student from 5th Year who took part in the discussion

A wide variety of comments were sent between the 4th and 15th of March, which included rather contrasted opinions, from an excessive exaltation of the values of Virtual worlds in our society, to an exaggerated view of the dangers of it.

To show this contrast we can summarize two of this comments, as the one of a girl called Lucía Suárez, who explained virtual Worlds were a good way of entertainment as many others offered by the internet, but who put forward the dangers of this when got too far, as people would found many problems for communicating in real life, and also because the new personality they created, which was not at all their own.

This opinion finds a huge contrast for example with the one posted by Alberto Pérez, who saw Virtual worlds only as games, created to have fun and get to know other people with the same interests as you, although he also saw human interaction as the best way of communication.

Taking things in perspective, people in general and children and teenagers in particular, should be taught that used baring in mind it’s only a game and just for having fun, Virtual worlds are a good way to meet new people or to be in contact with others that you cannot meet face-to-face any longer.

And as English language is all that matters to us in the end, foreign Virtual Worlds or chats should be visited frequently by our visitors, to talk to native people, as it’s not only a good way to practice English but also one of the best ways to meet new people and have fun.
