New motion for debate: Abortion
Proposed by Sandra López
Throughout history, induced abortions have been a source of considerable debate and controversy.A person´s position on abortion may be described as a combination of their personal beliefs on the morality of iduced abortion and their beliefs on the ethical limit of the government´s legitimate authority.Perhaps the largest point of contention is the label applied to what, who or when is being aborted. Those who think abortion should be generally illegal often use the phrase “unborn baby.” Those who think abortion should be generally legal often use the word “foetus”.
Do you think that it should be legal in all the cases? And moreover,do you agree with the medical technolgy that allows you to know if your baby would have any problem?

I’ve got mixed feelings about this subject: I’m in favour of abortion because sometimes it’s not the moment for having a baby, I mean, the baby would be a mistake for his parents and he could be even physically damaged by them. But… Who can control when an abort is necessary because of a mistake? There would be people who could use abort as a system for avoiding babies…
Besides, we can’t forget that abortion is being practised in illegal conditions in our country, so what’s the point in banning it?
Talking about possible problems on the foetus, I think it’s a right we have to know whether our baby would have a disease.
I´m in favour of avortion at least in the first weeks when it is only a load of cells because although there could be some cases of frivolousness most of the women that opt for this terrible action must have good reasons.
In my opinion, no woman should be forced to become a mother. It is an important step in a person´s life and abortion should be legal in all the cases
Some people alleged that life starts in the moment that the ovule and the sperm mix together, but , I think that in the first weeks of pregnancy there is not an human life, only a small cell.
I am in favour of it and I think it should be legalised and regulated in all the cases. I respect other people’s moral and religious convictions but, at the same time, they should respect other points of view because, after all, it’s a personal choice and each one, in that case, has to bare the consequences. In my opinion, a foetus can’t be considered as a human being it’s just group of dividing cells so it’s a waste of time talking about its fundamental right to life.
My personal opinion on the subject of abortion is that it´s worth trying to change the general idea that abortion is a murder, and that it should be a personal choice.
women are put under a lot of pressure during the pregnancy. In many cases it could be the only way of saving human lives since the woman´s life is at risk.
Abortion should be legal. If you can afford it and you need to interrupt your pregnancy (a disease, a violation or simply…an unexpected baby), whats the matter? A group of cells is not a baby.
And furthermore, the illegal abortion is a dangerous practice in some countries, which a lot of deaths caused by the bad conditions.
As I see it, it’s a woman ddecision to say if she wants or not to be a mother, then we can enter in hundreds of exceptions, raped women or girls, kids with malformations or other kind of diseases, etc.
I’m absolutely in favour of that kind of testing to know if your baby would have any disease and I think it should be compulsory for any pregnant woman.
The bottom line is that abortion is a woman’s issue and only the woman should make the final decision. This is not a political issue.
I believed that overall in the first weeks theres no point in forbdden abortions, but afterseeing photos of embryos with only few weeks I change my mind…but I also understand that it depends on the cases…So i have a little mess in relation with my opinion
I think that, although you can call the embryos “babys”, they’re still not formed, and they don´t sense or feel what is happening, so I think abort should be legalised, but only when there’s a cause that justifies it.
I am completly against abortion. I think it´s unnatural, because our life begins when we are only embryos, for that reason in my opinion abortion is a crime. Although my girlfriend or a relative had a pregnancy nonwished, I would never choose abortion. As Sandra says you see those photos of embryos and it´s imposible want to kill them.
I really don´t have a clear idea of this issue, how can we know when it is right to end their lives and when not. If I had to decide, I would say that abortion should be made legal, I think embryos have not a real live, at least, the way we see live, they almost can not feel, be happy or sad…..
I desagree with Daniel, you are very strong with your idea..What happens if it is a teenager who is pregnancy,or if you can´t give your son an aproppiated live?
I think abortion it´s bad because you ´re taking a decission that should be taken for the baby , don´t you think so?
Sandra, I don´t mind if the woman who is in pregnacy is a teenager or she is in his 40´s. Because if she has been enough woman to be in pregnancy, she” ll have to be enough woman to be a mother. Furthermore nowadays when there are so many contraceptive ways of avoiding being pregnancy. Everybody should be consistent with his actions. . And although you are a teenager I´m sure you”ll be able to give your son an aproppiated live. I know 2 women who got pregnant being very young (17 and 19) and they could bring up their children, and without living together with the father of the children.
ouff!I have mixed feelings about abortion. I’m in favour in the three cases the law allow:
Therapeutic abortion:
-To save the life of the pregnant woman.
-To preserve the woman’s physical or mental health.
-To terminate pregnancy that would result in a child born with a congenital disorder that would be fatal or associated with significant morbidity.
I understand Daniel but I must add that I never be so selfish as to bring to world a baby with important disorders. It’s cruel. It’s difficult to express what I want to say… It would be a terrible life for him/her, what will he/she do when i’m dead?? I’m studing law and i admit law considers “person” who can breath and live for himself 24h, but for me “only a load of cells” as julio Muiña said is a life.I don’t mind what procesal law says. It’s a very complicated issue.I also want to add that there’s another solution in case of you didn’t want the baby: you can refuse the right of paternity and give your child to state. It will take care of the baby.I only wish never be in one of these situations because my boyfriend thinks like you
Nuria, to be completely honest, I must admit I agree with you in part of your reasons. Maybe in my other message I was too radical. I also agree if the life of a pregnant woman is in risk she should abort.
Now I feel a bit strange because it must be the first message when I end up giving you the reason, and that´s very strange. I must admit you have given me good reasons. But at least it´s a comfort to know your boyfriend thinks same like me.
I’m in favour of abortion. I don’t think a fetus is a person and if you kill it, you aren’t commiting murder. If any woman wants to have an abortion, she should have the opportunity to do it free in a hospital.
In my opinion people who thinks that a few cells are a person, they are maybe blind, because it can’t feel anything, it doesn’t think,… It’s like a stone, but this stone will become a child some months later. If you can throw a stone, why not a fetus?
