From Sonia to all of you

28 05 2008

Something strange is happening, well, perhaps not so strange, but I don’t know how to mend it.

Sonia wanted to say goodbye to you all and she sent this e-mail to me because she couldn’t post it herself.

Thank you Sonia.

Thanks to you, teacher. and to all my classmates for making from every lesson a funny adventure. This year is being a bit hard for me (as I told you I am preparing “oposiciones”) so this English class was a good way to bring my stress to a halt. Plus I learned very useful things and I had the chance of meeting really nice people. I also have to admit that all these months I got addict to this blog…I used to check it very often to look for everybody’s comments or for new resources. Congratulations teacher on this successfull blog! Finally I want to say a “see you soon” (I don’t like to say goodbye) to all of you, including the teacher. I could not go to the last day of class (my exams are getting closer so preassure is on the increase. lol.)

Take care and enjoy life to the fullest.

Sonia ;)

Thank you

Just a note to let you know that it has been a pleasure for me to be your teacher. The last year is supposed to be the most demanding and you have been great students. If I have taught you some English, even just a bit, I have done my job. But, I just want you to know that you have taught lots of things to me.
Some of you are, perhaps, a bit disappointed because you didn’t get the marks you expected. But follow my advise and never give up. Don’t think of English as something impossible for you. If you have reached this point, you can go further and further.
Let me give you all the last piece of advice as a teacher. Take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to go on improving your English. Read and listen to as much English as you can and, if you feel like writing send your ideas to our blog. I won’t be adding things to it for a time, but when the next year starts you can take part in it as well, even if you are no longer “my students”.
Thank you again because the enthusiasm you showed in the lessons encouraged me to try with this experience of blogging. You have been so patient being my guinea pigs without complaining! I just hope it has been useful for you.

I’m nothing without my dear colleages

26 05 2008

Yes, it’s true. I am incredibly lucky to have colleages and friends from whom I learn a lot.

In our lesson today, some of you wanted more and more practice. Well, I have a very close friend in EOI Avilés called Mª José who has some printable exercises you can do. I’m sure she will be delighted if you find them useful. Her blog is Shall we blog? If you want to do the printable exercises click here. Have a look at the other exercises she has created, and enjoy yourself.

Thank you, Mª José.

I also have to thank Carmen (EOI Mieres), Maria (EOI Oviedo) and Javier (EOI Luarca) for their patience and support. They are the ones who told me about ELLLO. I haven’t tried it myself, but since they recommended it, I’m sure it’s great. I’ve just added it in USEFUL LINKS.

Men and women, the same or different?

26 04 2008

If you go to María V’s blog you’ll find a very interesting and funny test taken from the book Why men don’t listen and women can’t read maps. If you want to know what kind of person you are or how much of a man or a woman there is in you click here, download the pdf file, be honest with your answers and check your results in the answersheet. I can guarantee that it is great fun.

GENDER ROLES

24 04 2008

We all know that women represent at least half of the world population. It is also said that men and women have the same rights and the same possibilities. Is it true?
We can think of Spain as a “modern” country if we take into account the number of women government ministers. Or perhaps you don’t think we are “so” modern and things are as they used to be 10 years ago.
In our lesson you have been interviewing your classmates about these and other issues concerning how much gender roles have changed in the last years.
Please, send your conclusions here. It will be very interesting to read your findings.
Remember to follow the example we worked with in our lesson.

Reported Speech in CLASSROOM

22 04 2008

I hope you have done the revision I told you to do on Reported Speech and verb patterns in general. In case you want to do a bit more, go to CLASSROOM. I have uploaded a couple of exercises for you. Remember also to have a look at USEFUL LINKS page where, I’m sure, you’ll find something else to help you improve your English. Good revision!
