 Halloween´s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. This festival was a celebration of the end of the harvest season and it involves bonfires and people wearing costumes and masks in an attempt to copy the evil spirits or placate them.

The term Halloween is shortened from All Hallow´s Even, which is now also known as All Saint´s  Day, which as we all of us know , is celebrated on November 1.

On Hallow´s eve the ancient Celts placed a skeleton on their window sill to represent the departed.  These lanterns were first carved from a turnip or rutabaga. Believing that the head contained the spirit and the knowledge, the Celts used the “head” of the vegetable to frighten off any superstitions. The name jack-o’ -lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking old farmer. He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped him by carving a cross into the tree trunk. In revenge, the devil placed a curse on Jack, condemning him to wander the earth at night with the only light he had: a candle inside of a hollowed turnip.

Now-a-days it is a big party for childen and adults. They put on their terrific customs and wander along the streets, having fun. In USA children play Trick or Treat and receive presents, specially sweets.

With the passing of time this festival has been imported by many other countries, such as Spain.

1- Some advices to spend a funny night:

- Children must have dinner before going out to avoid esting all the sweets and getting sick.

- It is recommended that children go in groups, together or accompained by an adult.                                     

- Children must plan their way and musn´t enter in the houses.                     

- It is recommended to use lanterns.

- Customs must be bright coloured.

- Be careful with strangers.
