First Spanish Republic

Isabel ll did an exile in France in 1868 and then a new king reigned. His name was Amadeo de Saboya and he started to reign in 1871. He was from Italy and he abdicated in 1873 because he didn´t have support.

Then the Parliament proclaimed the First Spanish Republic in 1873. In a republic there isn´t a king there is a president. In the First Spanish Republic there were problems like as he didnt have support, industrial problems, agriculture problems and the war in Cuba that´s why there were four presidents. In 1874 there was another king because the republic ended and Alfonso Xll that was Isabel ll ´s son reigned.

Spain lost the last colonies in America: Puerto Rico, Cuba and Philippines.
