Maths games

Posted by ricardogm on 15th April 2013

Today we are going to play with maths. Puaaajjj!

No, seriously. Your mission today is to try  some maths games and write a report about them. Follow these steps:

1. Go to this page: Maths puzzles.

2. Try at least four of the games. NOTE: Most of them need Flash Player. If you have problems, call the teacher.

3. Write a report (a word document) about these games. You have to include a brief description, your opinion about the game and a picture. Tell me if you think that the games could help the students to learn maths.

4. You can ask Will for help, and I suggest you to call him to take a look at your report before sending it to me.

5. Send me the report

The goal for the session of today is create some applets with Geogebra about triangles:

1. First of all, find out using internet the name (in english) of the special points and lines of the triangles. They are in your book, page 190. Write me a mail with these words and meaning.

2. Now we are going to create them. Pay attention.

Marks and Thales

Posted by ricardogm on 17th March 2013

That’s what I’ve made up for today:

1. Send me a message with the marks you think you deserve, but this time I want more precision: you must write five marks:

  1. Classroom work
  2. Homework
  3. Notebook
  4. Actitude
  5. And at last, the global mark

2. Geogebra: pay attention to the teacher, we are going to create very sophisticated applets about Thales work.

Pythagoras and more

Posted by ricardogm on 11th March 2013

While Will finishes with your Powerpoints, do these tasks:

1. Some Pythagoras from BBC. Read the “Revise” section, and work out “Activity” and “Test”. Copy the test in a word document and send it to me, after solving it.

2. Solve this worksheet about similarity. Send me the solutions

3. Got to this page about Thales’ theorem. Following the steps in the applet (Use the button “Reproduce”), try to create your own applet with geogebra, and send it to me.

Geometry I

Posted by ricardogm on 4th March 2013

Today we are going to use Geogebra to  review similarity and Thales and Pythagoras’ theorems. Pay attention, copy the steps in your notebook and send the teacher the final applets.

Functions ad nauseam

Posted by ricardogm on 28th February 2013

1. Go to SM and do exercises 152 and 155.

2. Go again to do exercise 167.

3. We are going to visit “Proyecto Gauss” now. Answer the questions below the applet in a word document and send it to me.

4. And another applet from “Proyecto Gauss”. Do the same thing.

5. If there’s time left, we are going to learn some tricks with Geogebra

End of PowerPoint

Posted by ricardogm on 25th February 2013

Today you are going to show Will your presentations, and he is going to give you a mark for them.

At the same time, you are going to work out these exercises:

1. From Anaya 3º, Unit 7, parts  2 to 5

2. From Anaya 3º, Unit 8, parts 6 and 7

3. Use this applet to correct exercise 44, page 174. If it doesn´t work, use Geogebra.

More GeoGebra

Posted by ricardogm on 18th February 2013

1. You are going to see your exams and copy what you think will be useful for you in the final exam.

2. And another task: you are going to create a GeoGebra applet about functions, following these steps:

a) Create two sliders (deslizadores), with the names “m” and “n”.

b) Write the linear function y=mx+n

c) Change color and style at wish.

d) Save and send it to me.

e) In the same email, try to explain the effect that “m” and “n” have in the function. For example, how is the function if “m” is a positive number?

You can see an example here.

3) Your teacher is going to propose you more GeoGebra work.

More functions

Posted by ricardogm on 14th February 2013

1. In the first part of the class we are going to learn a little vocabulary to describe graphs. Open this pdf and answer the questions. Send me your work. You have 25 minutes for this task.

2. There are several applets about functions in this blog. The teacher is going to show you them.

3. Now it’s time to use Geogebra. You should have an icon in your desktop (or two).  We are going to play with the simplest functions, the straight lines (theay are called linear functions). Copy in your notebook the instructions the teacher is going to give you. At the end of the class you are supposed to send him some GeoGebra files.

First of all, we need to set an exam this friday (February 8th, 2013). An exam about equations, of course.

We are just starting with functions, a new and amazing topic.

1. Find out a nice and short definition of function. I recommend you to try here, in math is fun.

2. Send me this definition.

3. Some of the simplest functions are linear functions (straight lines). Work out parts 2, 3 and 4 of Anaya.

4. Now we are going to use GeoGebra to draw linear functions, and solve equation systems as well. Pay attention to the teacher
