WELCOME BACK TO A EUROPEAN SCHOOL

Publicado en 1 — 24 Septiembre 2015 @ 8:36 am

As you probably know by now, our school is involved in an Erasmus+ project KA1 which we will be developing for two years (December 2014 - December 2016).

Some of your teachers have been working during the summer  holidays and  taking courses in different countries  to improve their teaching methods and  abilities  so as to enable our school to meet the European standards, by offering a modern approach to the process of learning , which includes the use of new technologies, the Internet, communicative ways of learning languages and the development of a strong European consciousness.

We hope that all throughout the next months you will start noticing little or big changes which will make our school and , above all, your education much better.

TENSES REVISION (2º BACH)

Publicado en 2º BACHILLERATO — 21 Septiembre 2015 @ 7:03 pm

The Starter unit in your course book assumes that you can handle verbal tenses pretty well. For those who think that some further practice wouldn’t be such a bad idea, here you have some, I hope, useful links.

PRESENT SIMPLE / PRESENT CONTINUOUS

PRESENT SIMPLE / PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS

PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE / PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS

PRESENT TENSES (MIXED)

SIMPLE PAST / PAST CONTINUOUS

SIMPLE PAST / PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE

SIMPLE PAST / PAST PERFECT

PAST TENSES (MIXED)

FUTURE TENSES (MIXED)

As you can see, all the exercises belong to the same webpage, Lingolia. There are more exercises, so I suggest you investigate it on your own and decide which others you would like to try.

And for those who “miss” my “mixed tenses” exercise in exams… you will find this one very useful Guiño!

SOME LISTENING PRACTICE

Publicado en 1 — 4 Febrero 2015 @ 6:41 pm

Practising the  listening skill used to be a rather challenging task in the past. Nowadays,  and thanks to the new technologies,  it has become much easier. Some students are worried about this particular skill, so I

have decided to give them a few clues and links that, hopefully, will help them.

First of all, I am sure that you all like music, and probably some of your favourite songs are in English. Well then, you are practising your listening skills while enjoying one of your favourite hobbies! If, apart from that, you have a look at the lyrics, so that you try to get the whole meaning implied in the song, much better! Remember you can easily do that in Youtube. Why don’t you try with this song? I love it!

Do you remember Cristina Cabal? She taught English in our school two years ago. Well, she writes a wonderful blog where you can find lots of things to practise your English, among it songs. Why don’t you give it a try from time to time?

LEARNING ENGLISH WITH SONGS

Another very useful trick: WATCH YOU FAVOURITE TV SERIES or FILMS IN ENGLISH (you can add subtitles to help you understand  what is happening). We are not used to doing this in our country, but our neighbours in Portugal do it every day and their competences in English are quite high.  Here you have a short extract from one of your favourite sitcoms, The Big Ban Theory.

Ant then, if you surf the internet a bit,  you will find thousands of pages that offer you lotsof practice. Here you have a few ones:

LEARN ENGLISH TEENS : this page includes lots of different videos with answers you can submit online.

FREE ENGLISH LISTENINGS : Here you have many different options: gap fill, picture description, short conversations, etc.

Good luck!!!

WORKBOOK ANSWER KEYS (UNIT 2, 1º BACHILLERATO)

Publicado en 1º BACHILLERATO — 15 Enero 2015 @ 10:46 pm

Some students told me yesterday that they were also interested in doing the exercises at the en of the unit. Here you have the answers to the ESSENTIALS page. don’t worry about the CHALLENGE one, it may be too difficult and create more doubts before the exam.

SOMETHING FOR STUDENTS IN 1º BACH

Publicado en 1º BACHILLERATO — 10 Enero 2015 @ 9:16 am

Hello everybody! Since it seems that you have some problems with the unit contents, especially with the verbal tenses, and,  as we don’t have enough time in class to correct all the execises, I have decided to publish the answers to the exercises in the workbook, so that you can do them and correct them on your own. Once you have done that,  if you still don’t understand something, ASK ME!!!

You can also do some practice online. Here you have some interesting links:

Do you remember that today is a very special day for people living in The USA? They celebrate Thanksgiving every 4th Thursday in November, and that is today!! Last year Lauren, the language assistant, told us many things about this festivity. However, we think it would be a good idea to offer you the possibility of revising it all again. Here you have a short but very interesting video that gives lots of details about this American celebration. It’s got subtitles, so you won’t have any problems to understand it.
