PICE (Iberoamerican Programme of School Cooperation) was a programme promoted by the Latin American States Organization together with the Spanish Ministry of Education. It tried to improve education through students and teachers cooperation from both sides of the Atlantic sea.

Our project Building an educative CTS net was carried out by the Departmental Educative Institution “Rafael Núñez” in Algarrobo (Colombia), the Educative centre “Fe y Alegría” Nº 2 in Lima (Perú) and the IES Selgas school, from January 2004 to December, 2006.

Our aim was showing how groups from different countries were able to work together on Science, Technology and Society (CTS). We tried to ensure our students learnt how citizens must acquire cultural and scientific knowledge and consequently, make decisions on the topics concerning their lives.

Environment: water supplies and waste products management was the theme taken to our classrooms. The topic was introduced to the students from a scientific and technological point of view. Students did the rest. They studied the different aspects, assumed different roles and took part in a debate to come to an agreement on such a controversial topic.

A virtual room http://www.centroscts.org/ was created for sharing documents and experiences. Students and teachers from different cultures communicated in the same language and exchanged diverse points of view.
